Amy McCauley, Owner

Amy McCauley founded Barking Dog Communications in 2003 to provide publicity, copywriting, and event promotion services to a variety of clients.

Prior to launching Barking Dog, McCauley directed public relations programs in the motorsports industry’s top venues – including the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, NASCAR, Indy Car, the Indy Racing League and SCORE Off-Road. She managed national and international media campaigns and oversaw PR operations for the world’s two largest sporting events – the Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400 – as well as a variety of racing teams. Through both motorsports and agency work, she developed and implemented strategic plans, product launches, publicity campaigns, media relations, crisis communications and media training for companies such as Procter & Gamble, McDonald’s, Toyota, Nintendo of America, Yamaha, Boeing and NASA.

A published writer, McCauley has contributed regular columns to the Hickory Daily Record’s regional Business to Business magazine and the now-defunct Pros Communications magazine. She has been published in Today’s Charlotte Woman, Fido Friendly and Carolina Banker magazines, among others, and writes the monthly cover story for Hickory Living magazine. In 2006, she received the credit of editor for the nationally-published book Pit Road Pets: NASCAR Stars and Their Pets.

McCauley is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she earned a B.A. in English, magna cum laude.  She currently serves on advisory boards for the Communication Department at Lenoir-Rhyne University and the Champions Tour Tournament Association and was named one of the area’s "20 Under 40" business leaders in 2008 by the Hickory Daily Record. A leukemia survivor, McCauley actively volunteers for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Western North Carolina chapter and served as a spokesperson for the NASCAR Foundation’s 2oo8 Blood and Bone Marrow Drive.

McCauley has two barking dogs – Gus, a chocolate Labrador Retriever, and Banjo, a rescued Lab-Chesapeake Retriever mix – who reside with her and her husband, Roy, in Sherrills Ford, N.C.
